85.3km Total 1912km
Today we're both tired. At least we had a descent from our hotel.
A long steady climb out of Buzet along a fairly busy road. Most the traffic was good, except for the buses! All 3 of them that went past were a bit too close for my liking.
First impressions of Croatia is that it's a poorer country than Slovenia. Roads aren't as good, rubbish on the verges, places that aren't cared for, lots of smokers who just drop their cigarette butts. Once we turned off the main road it was pleasant undulating riding, but you couldn't go too fast on the downhills cos the road was narrow and lots of holes.
We started looking for places to stay before descending down to the ferry - nice view from the town.
Oh dear, couldn't find anything!! The planned 60km day turned into 85 cos once we got the ferry to the island of Cres, the closest accomodation was 26km away.
The ferry trip was only about 20 minutes.
We began the 26km ride to Cres at about 7pm with no idea of the profile. Just as well, cos we wouldn't have liked it. The first 10km was a 400m climb! It made for a great descent into Cres though, along a beautiful smooth bit of road.
The campground in Cres is huge. Given we needed a couple of days off, we decided to take a room rather than putting up the tent - great move as it's a really nice room overlooking the Adriatic, and the air conditioning works!
Now for a couple of days sleeping, swimming, sitting on the balcony. Life's good.
