3/7/19 Storje to Buzet, Croatia and a crazy border crossing

76km  Total 1827km

Today was looking so good.
More pleasant riding on quiet roads.  Through the little town of Lupica - apparently famous for Lippizan horses.

Our first view of the Adriatic.

About 20km on nice dirt roads, a minor detour into Ratikovec to find some water - another very hot day, then down to the border crossing out of Schengen countries.

Dermot handed the border guy his Irish passport. No problems.  Then me.  Sorry, you can't go through this crossing, it's not big enough.  You have to go to Socerga, about 16km away!  Oh no!!!!  16km on hilly roads on our bikes takes at least an hour!
So I convinced Dermot to go a bit of a shorter way. It involved descending for about 5km at about 18% - not looking good if we have to turn around.  Lots of help from locals to find our way and eventually got to Socerga.

Stopped in the hilltop village of Buzet.  Managed to find some nice accom.  Just a few problems - it was right at the top of the hill - about 6 switchbacks to get here, up on the 2nd floor but at least we were given some help carrying our bags up, totally inadequate airconditioning for a 38 degree day.  Made for a hot night of sleeping.  But at least we had dinner with a fantastic view.

This area is famous for truffles, and the pasta dish was delicious and perfect for 2 very hungry people.
