2/9/19 Mt Nemrut

This turned out to be an interesting day - going the wrong way several times.

First off, we missed the turnoff to an ancient Roman Bridge.  The way we went was pretty spectacular though.

The Cendere Bridge was built around 100AD and still standing.  In a spectacular gorge, and you can still walk across the bridge.

We met some kids fishing with nets - looked like they must get the fish caught up in the net as it didn't seem to have an opening.
Here he is with his catch - a couple of little fish
On the road up to Mt Nemrut we came across the ancient city of Arsameia from BC times Impressive carvings and a deep cave that we descended for about 100m using our phone torches.

The view from the hill where the tombs used to be was amazing.

Then onto Mt Nemrut, a mausoleum dating back to 60BC, at a height of 2,200m.

It's a solid climb to the top.

We met this Spanish guy with his dog Hippie, who was cycling all the way. We helped him with his panniers for a short way, but bloody hell, he's chosen a tough trip.
See Hippie in behind his bike.
When we came down from Mt Nemrut, we probably went the wrong way, so we ended up going through the town we were in last night and now we're at the Hilton in Andiyama spoiling ourselves. Tomorrow we'll head north towards the Black sea.
