Uchisar Castle in the distance |
From Uchisar we walked back down to Goreme via Pidgeon Valley. It's called Pidgeon Valley because of the vast number of pidgeon houses carved into the rocks so that in the past the pidgeon droppings were collected and used to fertilize the crops in the valley and the eggs were used as mortar material for frescoes.
Along the way a farmer invited us into his garden and gave us fresh apricots, plums, beans, pears - all from the garden. We had to stop him cos we couldn't carry any more!
Then the fun began. The signs indicated which way we should go, but there must have been a rock slide and they haven't changed the signs, so you couldn't get through.

The supposed path through is just to the right of Dermot |
After several attempts at trying to get to the valley below without killing ourselves, we decided the only option was to go to the top. And that turned out to be the way. Stopped in at a little coffee house on the way back down into the valley and spent some time chatting to a French guy on tour.
And here's a view from our hotel at sunset.
And bought a nice scarf from this lady. It took her 5 days to make it.
