1/7/19 Bovec to Saksida

97km  Total 1713km
The climb out of our camping ground was a bit of a rude shock to start the day but then we spent the rest of the day travelling down the Soca valley.

This is the highest waterfall in Slovenia - in the distance above the houses.

And here's another photo of the Soca, cos it's so beautiful - look how clear that water is!

Stopped in Kobarid for a quick coffee.

All was going really well - beautiful quiet back roads, then it turned to gravel - still nice.  But then this!  You just never know where you're going to end up.

It was interesting to watch the Soca change from the blue crystal clear of the mountains to a much dirtier river down near Nova Gorica - still good enough for swimming.  Rode along a bike trail for about 10km coming into the outskirts of Nova Gorica - right on the Italian border.

A couple of days ago, we met a young dutch couple who told us about a fantastic meal they'd had with matching wines so that was our destination today.  About 20km out of Nova Gorica in a big wine area.

The meal was superb - except not quite filling enough for Dermot after a long day's ride.

Camping in the vines.  The campsite was full of paraglider pilots.  A noisy bunch, but with the amount of wine we'd drunk, they didn't effect us.
